Currency Info

The monetary unit of Dubai is the Dirham (Dhs.), which is also referred to as the AED (Arab Emirate Dirham). One dirham is divided into 100 fils. The notes are as follows: Dhs.5 (brown), Dhs.10 (green), Dhs.20 (light blue), Dhs.50 (purple), Dhs.100 (pink), Dhs.200 (brown/green), Dhs.500 (blue) and Dhs.1000 (blue-green). The values and numbers are written in both English and Arabic. Coins are little trickier than notes because the numbers are written only in Arabic. Fortunately there are only 3 types of coins used regularly: the Dhs.1, the 50 fils and the 25 fils which are all silver in colour. The Dhs.1 coin is circular and usually has a traditional coffee pot on one side; the 50 fils is seven-sided with the picture of an oil refinery on one side and the 25 fils is circular, but smaller than the Dhs.1 with the picture of a small antelope on one side.
